Neighbourhood networks
Neighbourhood networks bring communities together to encourage discussion on issues of shared interest. They:
- Work with partners to develop appropriate service solutions at a neighbourhood level;
- Develop new methods of engagement, particularly to ensure participation of residents who are not heard through more traditional routes; and
- Have a role in deciding on the allocation of devolved budgets.
Communities can use the networks as a method to influence the priorities and outcomes of the Local Outcome Improvement Plan and their Locality Improvement Plans. There are thirteen neighbourhood networks in the city:
- Almond
- City Centre
- Craigentinny and Duddingston
- Forth
- Inverleith
- Leith
- Liberton and Gilmerton
- Morningside
- Pentlands
- Portobello and Craigmillar
- Southside/Newington
- South West
- Western Edinburgh
Neighbourhood networks have the flexibility to develop their own operating model and wider membership to reflect their community. Membership of these networks include representatives from:
- Community bodies (e.g. community councils, tenants’ organisations, ‘Friends of’ groups, parent councils, community trusts)
- Elected members for the relevant wards
- Third sector organisations
