Education and Skills

Education and skills opportunities provide an important foundation for good mental wellbeing as well as influencing future quality of life, through opportunities for future employment and access to the other building blocks of health. Information on local people’s levels of education is included in the Lothian Public Health Survey report above, with some additional sources of information listed below.

Scotland’s school health and wellbeing census including Edinburgh data tables
A school-based survey of young people’s health and wellbeing was conducted in 2021 in Scotland, with 16 of 32 local authorities taking part (including Edinburgh, but no other Lothian council areas). This site provides data in aggregate form from this survey, including information such as self-reported health outcomes, health-behaviour engagement and social determinants of health such as the presence of trusted adults and relationships with parents and school staff.
